Brought up in the suburbs on the outskirts of Halifax, Dave became curious about music upon discovering a fiddle in his parents basement. It had belonged to his Great Grandfather, John Alexander, who was a very tall man. Although Dave would come to find he shared his grandfather's musicality, he didn't share the same dimensions, being age 6. Dave wrestled with the instrument for 2 years until his sister passed down her 6-stringed acoustic guitar.

Growing up with it by his side, Dave and his guitar eventually founded his first band, Gloryhound, with high school mates. Over the decade that followed, Dave toured, recorded and wrote songs over North America releasing albums under label eOne, notably Loaded Gun produced by GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Melvins) and mixed by Bob Erin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper).

Gloryhound disbanded in 2016, and one week later Dave joined Halifax punk band Like A Motorcycle. Within a month the band was touring extensively through Europe. Like A Motorcycle released Dead Broke in 2020, winning Music Nova Scotia’s award for Rock Recording of the Year. Dave also records and tours throughout Europe and North America with Toronto band Dearly Beloved.

When he’s not on the road with his bands, Dave can be found in his basement studio in the South End of Halifax, recording and mixing a variety of music for the purposes of collaborating with artists on mixed mediums such as film and dance, working to establish his place in the field of scoring.
